How to use Soft Lines

Set a comparison source, interpret Edge %, inspect the expanded row, and troubleshoot filters or stale prices. Formerly Edge Finder.

Soft Lines, formerly Edge Finder, scans individual outcomes for prices that sit away from your selected reference. It helps you investigate where operators disagree. The reference you choose is part of the result, so read it alongside the edge.

Configure your first scan

  1. Choose a sport and a market you understand.
  2. Select your available sportsbooks, then check the date and game-status filters.
  3. Use the comparison control to choose an available reference, such as Pinnacle, market average, or an enabled custom model.
  4. Set the minimum edge and odds range. Start by understanding the unfiltered results before narrowing them.
  5. Sort by Edge % to inspect larger differences, or Game time to review upcoming events.
  6. Expand a row to compare the full set of prices and the reference behind the result.

Read one opportunity

FieldMeaning
SelectionExact player/team, side, line, and market being compared
Best available priceThe quote on the selected outcome that the opportunity highlights
Comparison / modelThe reference used to evaluate that price
Edge %The displayed difference under that comparison; not the chance of winning
Fair oddsThe comparison's estimated fair price when supported
Kelly stakeA model-dependent sizing output, not an accepted order or guaranteed result

Use the expanded sportsbook comparison to check whether the highlighted price stands alone or other books are close. An outlier deserves investigation: it can be a real disagreement, a moved quote, or a mismatch you need to resolve.

Choose a reference deliberately

A specific reference book asks how the offered price compares with that book's view. Market average compares it with the available market set. Next-best, where offered, compares it with the next available quote. A custom model uses its selected books and settings.

These comparisons can produce different results for the same outcome. Changing the reference is not a way to prove a bet has value; it changes the assumption you are testing. Custom-model access depends on your plan. Review the model's books, methods, and filters before running several models together.

Example: same price, different conclusion

Imagine a selection is available at +150. If your reference estimate is +130, the offered price is more favorable than that reference. If another reference estimates +170, +150 is worse than that second estimate. The selection did not change; your comparison did.

Use the Expected Value calculator for an explicit probability-based calculation. Do not substitute Edge % for a win probability.

Soft Lines and Positive EV

Soft Lines explores one-sided price differences. Positive EV uses both sides of a reference market to estimate no-margin fair value. A selection can appear in one tool but not the other because the available evidence and calculation differ.

Check before saving or acting

Confirm the exact line, current destination quote, game timing, and market rules. Check whether a stake limit or available size applies to the highlighted operator or to a reference market. Those are not interchangeable. Saving a selection preserves a research item, not the quoted price.

Where available, create an alert from the tool to reuse the criteria. Read the saved rule in Alerts; future results may differ as prices change.

Troubleshooting

  • No results after adding a filter: remove one filter at a time; minimum edge, odds range, books, and markets can eliminate everything together.
  • The same outcome appears under several models: compare model names and reference settings before treating rows as different bets.
  • An unusually large edge: verify the line and destination quote; a large number alone is not stronger evidence.
  • A row disappears: the quote, comparison, game state, or matching criteria may have changed.
