FAQ
Common questions
Quick answers about Slate Insights so you can decide fast.
Where does the data come from?
All batting and pitching stats come from MLB Statcast via Baseball Savant. We use real plate appearance data (not just batted balls) for accurate BA, OBP, SLG, and K/BB rates.
How is the HR Score calculated?
The HR Score (0-100) is a composite of batter power metrics, pitcher vulnerability, park factors, weather/environment conditions, and matchup context. It's not a probability — it's a relative ranking of HR opportunity.
What does the pitch filter do?
When you select a pitch type (e.g. Sinker), the entire batting table updates to show stats against that specific pitch only. Select multiple pitches for a weighted average. This helps you find batters who crush a pitcher's go-to pitch.
Why do the stats change when I toggle vs RHP / vs LHP?
The hand filter shows each batter's career splits against right-handed or left-handed pitching from Statcast data. K%, BB%, BA, SLG, and wOBA all update to reflect the handedness split.
Are lineups confirmed?
We pull lineups from multiple sources. A green 'Confirmed' badge means the lineup has been officially announced. An amber 'Projected' badge means it's based on projected/expected lineups. Use the refresh button to check for updates.
